Advanced polls in Yellowhead up 123 per cent
More than twice as many Yellowhead voters cast a ballot in this election’s advanced polls compared to 2011, Elections Canada is reporting.
Advanced poll results were released October 14. Preliminary results tallied 10,854 votes cast between October 9-12, compared to just 4,862 votes cast in 2011.
Across Canada, some 3.6 million electors voted at the advance polls in this general election, a 71 per cent increase from the last general election.
In Alberta, 358,830 voters turned up at the advanced polls over the Thanksgiving weekend compared to 160,199 in 2011, a 124 per cent jump.
Advanced polls for Yellowhead’s 2014 by-election, in which current MP Jim Eglinski was voted in, saw 1,621 voters.
The next time voters have an opportunity to cast their vote is on the general election day, October 19. Jasper residents vote at the Jasper Activity Centre. Voters must be registered with Elections Canada and present identification with their current home address.
